The
Chateau
Built in the 19th century, under the Restoration period with the typical 19th
century decoration, large and spacious rooms with abundant outside light: all
living rooms and bedrooms have large windows to the south with a view to the
park and the surrounding countryside up to 10 kilometres. It is a three storied
building with two main floors: Main entrance at ground level is commanded by a
vast entrance steps leading to a stone floored hall distributing the main
reception rooms (one living room, one library, one TV boudoir and a dining
room). At the same level, the kitchen rooms combine functional appliances and
traditional kitchenware and decorum. In the middle of the kitchen, a large table
can easily host ten guests for casual meals. On the upper floor, three master
bedrooms and two suites are distributed by a gallery, with each room over 25
square meters and a view to the south, the park and the surrounding countryside.
Each of the two suites have a large master bedroom and a smaller bedroom with
one bathroom equipped with bath tub, shower, toilets, basin. Each of the three
master bedrooms have their own bathroom with shower, toilet and basin. One extra
bedroom of smaller dimension is situated at each floor level.
Outside:
The park of 11 hectares (25 acres) is entirely surrounded by a wall. It is
composed of oak woods and prairies with grazing horses and ponies, lawns edged
with hundred-year old trees. The swimming pool (10 meters by 5 meters) is
situated in the remote side of the lawn area facing the front facade of the
castle. It has a stone floored sun bath area and all necessary equipment for sun
bath, barbecue and ping-pong.
Sightseeing and activities:
The castle is an excellent starting point to discover the region of Loire
Valley-Poitou, its very rich architectural heritage (the famous castles of the
Loire Valley, abbeys, historical city centres, roman sanctuaries) and its
charming landscape has come to a legend. The French gastronomic tradition is
maintained in the region with fidelity. Within a short distance from the
chateau, numerous quality restaurants, typical old fashioned food markets with
genuine traditional, regionally made products can be found. In this region of
vineyards, visitors are also warmly welcomed by wine producers to taste their
local production. Within less than 30 minutes, one can enjoy the exceptional
FUTUROSCOPE, a resort dedicated to the latest technology of image, and both a 9
holes and an 18 holes golf course (Golf of Haut Poitou in Saint Cyr). The
property has a library with a very complete documentation on regional point of
interest for visitors with a number of selected sightseeing itineraries.
Historic cities:
Richelieu: the city built from scratch in the 17th century by the famous
cardinal of Richelieu, prime minister of Louis the 14th, the Sun King
Chinon: for a journey through one of the more fascinating period of French
history. Visit its medieval royal castles where Joan of Arc recognized the King
of France. Stroll through the untouched medieval city with its many shops and
boutiques. Enjoy its superb gastronomy and its wines.
Poitiers: a lively city, capital of Alienor of Aquitaine, with a 12th century
palace and early (3rd century) Christian churches
Notes:
All standard and superior appliances one may expect in a comfortable home:
electric and gas cookers, ovens, refrigerators, microwave, dishwasher, washing
machine and dryer, mixer, coffee machine, iron and iron table, electric tea
kettle, etc.Tableware and kitchenware for 15 guests, Bed linens and towels for
15 guests, TV and VCR are situated on the ground floor.
Services:
The Housekeeper comes on a daily basis (except Sundays) and is responsible for
the daily maintenance of the swimming pool. Two hours daily housework is
provided for the cleaning of the swimming pool and of the bedrooms. Upon
request, additional service is provided on the basis of 11 € per hour. Linen is
changed on a weekly basis.
