Description
Marie-Christine and Claude Combes will welcome you at the Château as privileged
guests whether you come for a short stay or a long visit. You will find modern
facilities, such as a swimming pool and tennis court, in a five century old
setting. On the menu, you will find home made foie gras and other regional
products. Receptions, weddings, seminars at the Orangery, Balnéo Spa.
Set in its own 8 acres park with secular trees, the chateau was originally
constructed in 1470 by the ancestors of the present owners. Greatly damaged
during the French Revolution, the chateau, as it exists today, was entirely
restored in the last part of the 18th century. It has been modernised since and
permanently inhabited.
The main salon has rare examples of a forerunner of modern wallpaper from Dufour
& Leroy depicting grey-and-white classical Psyché and Cupidon scenes
(hand-painted paper dating back from 1840, named "Grisaille de Zuber"). The
bedrooms and the public rooms all are enhanced with gilt-framed mirrors,
chandeliers and antique furniture. Most of them have a superb parquet floor.
This is a privately-owned chateau accepting paying guests and the home of
Marie-Christine, her husband Claude Combes and their children, representing the
15th generation to live in there. It's truly a home with a heart. If you are
primarily looking for a warm welcome so this is your ideal cheerful short-stay
base for enjoying traditional family cooking and visiting a region rich in
history.
The choice is nearly endless between sightseeing Toulouse, Albi, Gaillac
vineyards, Cordes, Hautpoul a fortified old village founded in 413 by the
Visigoths, Carcassonne, the Black Mountain or the Cathar castles recalling the
dramatic Crusade which crushed the religious Albigensian heresy in the 10th
century. Marie-Christine is a very enthusiastic hostess and you can rely on her
to kindly provide you with much help, including customized touring itineraries.
