History
Nestling in a bosky wood, perched on the terraced slopes overlooking the Loire
river, the Château, named after Geoffroy de Pray in 1244, is truly majestic. The
numerous towers bear witness to its past role as a stronghold.. It was not until
the Renaissance that the château became a place of residence.
In 1631, it came into the possession to the commissioner of artillery to the
queen of England. During the 18th century, it belonged to the consort to the
kings of Spain and France. Later, it was owned by an officer close to, La
Fayette, whose portrait hang above the 19th century fireplace, which is
decorated in ceramic tiles depicting figures from mythology. In the 20th
century, the wife of the writer Alphonse Daudet lived here. One of the first
châteaux to be opened to guests, offering an inimitable art de vivre in a unique
setting steeped in history.
Weddings, Receptions & Seminars
The Château is an exquisite place for the organisation of a wedding or a
reception. It can be rented in exclusivity proposing 2 reception rooms, an
orangery of 120 m2 and 19 rooms with private bathrooms.
For the reception, the chateau can welcome up to 60 guests for a dinner and up
to 100 people for a cocktail.
