The Château is located in its own park-like gardens in the heart of the "City of
Art and History", Laval, founded in 1000 AD and the birthplace in 1844 of
artist, Henri Rousseau. Visit the fine Museum of Naïve Art in an 11th century
fortified château or tour the château crypt and the keep; take a river cruise on
the Mayenne; stroll through Laval and discover its many fine restaurants. Only
90 minutes by train west from Paris or two hours by car on the Autoroute, the
Château welcomes you warmly. Built by Monsieur du Chalais, the regional salt tax
collector in the late 17th century upon an earlier 16th century structure, the
castle has been in the Williot family since 1967. The sincere warmth and
enthusiasm of your friendly hosts will certainly impress you, and they will make
every effort to ensure a relaxing and pleasant stay at the château, while
encouraging you to enjoy the abundant regional attractions. Great care has been
taken to maintain the authentic 18th century magnificence of this elegant home,
reflecting much love and attention bestowed upon it by its owners. Guest rooms
are cheerful, comfortable and beautifully decorated. In reception rooms one will
find original carved panelling from the 18th century, and throughout the house
are lovely crested marble fireplaces. The impressive dining room with its
parquet flooring and high ceilings provides the perfect setting for your choice
of a Continental or full English breakfast. The family happily welcomes children
as guests. Exquisite gardens will entice you to take quiet walks on the grounds
where you will forget that you are in the centre of a small city. A short,
pleasant walk from the château brings you into the heart of Laval, along the
Mayenne River and to the many interesting shops and enticing restaurants. The

see and enjoy at the crossroads of Normandy and Brittany.
Bedrooms
Rooms are very spacious, comfortable. Each room has been carefully retained in
its former 18c magnificence with delicately tinted carved wooden wall panelling,
crested marble fireplaces; authentic window hangings and furniture of the
period. The Château offers a single room decorated in the style of Napoleon I,
with private WC and shower; two double bedrooms, one with twin beds and double
bed with private bath, shower and WC all in their original 18c elegance.
Weddings & Receptions
The Chateau can be rented for small receptions and family events any day. For
lunch or afternoons receptions and cocktails. The chateau can guest up to 40
people for a sitting lunch and up to 120 people for a cocktail. More with a tent
outside.
