Le Manoir (15): An impressive
stone manor house with spacious, light and airy rooms, many original features
including superb wooden floors, all tastefully decorated and well furnished.
There are two hallways, one is very practical with a terracotta floor, coat
hooks and room for muddy boots or buckets and spades. The other, a little
grander with the original tiled floor and mahogany stairway, has double doors
opening out into the garden. The telephone here will accept incoming calls and
you can make local calls. For international and long distance calls you will
need to purchase a phone card. The large kitchen dining room is at the centre of
activity in the house. It’s light and airy with lots of windows yet can still be
warm and cosy. There is a new solid oak kitchen that’s both attractive and very
practical with a large range gas cooker that can cope with cooking for larger
families or groups. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes a new large
fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and plenty of good quality pots and pans.
In the dining area there is a large wooden table so every one can sit and eat
together plus an original fireplace. There is a separate self contained lounge
with plenty of comfortable sofas, a TV and video and selection of books and
games for you to use. One of the sofas converts to a sofa bed. The downstairs
bathroom is very large and has a toilet, sink, bath with shower attachment and a
bidet. It’s such a large room the washing machine and dryer are in there as
well. On the first floor there are four bedrooms and a shower and toilet. The
larger room has a double and single bed, then there are two twin bedded rooms
and a double room. All bedrooms have a wash basin. On the top floor is a
magnificent roof conversion which has made a very large bedroom with lots of
features including original beams, Lucerne window, superb wooden floor and its
own shower and toilet en suite. There are two double beds and one single bed.
Linen (except towels) is provided, there are duvets and top sheets on the beds
and all rooms have central heating. Cots, high chairs and child’s bed are
available at no extra cost. Outside there is a large private patio with tables,
chairs, sun loungers and a barbecue. It is south facing and in the sun most of
the day and evening . The 10m x 5m heated swimming pool is salinated (rather
than chlorinated) with Roman steps, secure fencing and plenty of room for sun
loungers. There is ample
parking next to the property.
The Longere (12):
A traditional Breton Longere
(Long House) newly converted to provide superb accommodation of a very high
standard. On the ground floor there is a large entrance hall with the original
fireplace, wooden stairway and telephone. The telephone accepts incoming calls
and outgoing local calls only. You will need to purchase a phone card for long
distance and international calls. The ‘ piece de resistance ‘ is the very large
open plan lounge, kitchen and dining area (approx. 70ft). It is light and sunny,
stylishly decorated and furnished with lots of large windows. There are plenty
of comfortable sofas plus a TV, video and a selection of videos, books, and
games for you to use. French windows open out onto a private breakfast patio
that catches the morning sun, the ideal spot to sit and have breakfast or
morning coffee with unrestricted views of the open countryside. There is also
your own large south facing terrace with plenty of patio furniture and a
barbecue. The newly fitted and equipped kitchen has a breakfast bar, large
cooking range, microwave, fridge freezer, washing machine and dryer. The dining
area has a large Breton style table that will seat twelve people. There are two
showers and toilets on the ground floor. Upstairs there is a bathroom with a new
roll top bath and toilet and an additional separate toilet. The five bedrooms
are all new carpeted and have washbasins. There are two double bedrooms, two
twin rooms and one family room (double and bunk beds). Outside - see above
Locally: You will find
plenty to do and se in this part of Southern Brittany, there are miles of
beautiful coastline with superb beaches, pretty villages and fascinating
medieval towns steeped in history, plus many tourist attractions. The local
beauty spot St Nicholas des Eaux is only a few minutes drive, situated on the
River Blavet it offers a range of activities including a river cruise, pedalos,
and canoes to hire, fishing, cycling and riverside walks along the scenic
towpath. There are a couple of restaurants, bars and an excellent creperie, all
overlooking the river. The nearest town is Baud (15 minutes drive ), an
attractive bustling market town with a good selection of traditional shops and
restaurants, two large supermarkets, a Brittany postcard museum and an indoor
swimming pool. The local golf course, Golf de Rimaison near Bieuzy-Les-Eaux, a
fifteen minute drive away, is a 9 hole, par 35 course with panoramic views over
the River Blavet. There are also a number of excellent 18 hole golf courses
within a 40 minute drive. Only a 20 minute drive away is the town of Pontivy
with an impressive chateau and half-timbered buildings in the old quarter of
town. There are numerous shops, restaurants and bars.
