The
Property - This 18th Century Chateau stands on an outstretched, woody
terrain along the river Meuse, 5 km from the little town of Vireux. The estate
actually lies in France but is only 15 km from the Belgium Ardennes. The
property has an entrance hall, a large sitting room with fireplace, an
additional sitting room with satellite TV, a dining room with fireplace, a
fully-equipped kitchen, 6 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms. The property is
centrally-heated so that it can be used throughout the year. Outside there is a
terrace with plenty of outdoor furniture, a large garden, a BBQ, a party hall
with a shed bar, table-tennis and a tennis court. The property enjoys large
grounds, with a river running through them, allowing for total privacy.
The activities on the premises include: fishing (in the Meuse, the lakes and
brooks), hikes in the woods, tennis and ping-pong, mountain bike trips,
canoeing. There is a domestic caterer service, a cook and the possibility to
hire a big shed, to organise a big party. It is a peaceful place (entrance to
the terrain via a tow path of 3km that leads to nowhere), wonderful for family
holidays or with friends, for those who enjoy the outdoor life. The estate
stands in France but only 15km from the Belgium Ardennes.
Interesting Information - The Ardennes region derives its character from its
river valleys that consist of winding canyons reaching up to inspiringly
beautiful high green peaks. Namur itself is a great starting point for any
exploration of the area. Set around a 19th Century Citadel, it has superb
restaurants and a lively bar scene. Other towns worth a visit are Dinant,
Rochefort, St Hubert and the delightful Bouillon (from where some of the
region’s most dramatic scenery can be seen). The Meuse Valley can be explored by
boat; alternatively one can canoe up the narrower and wilder River Lesse. Vireux
(5 km) has restaurants, markets and shops.
Getting There - Brussels international airport. Vireux train station 5 km
away.
